May 29, 2022 The 7th Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 7th Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and continues our Easter celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Our triumphant refrain continues to be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

The 7th Sunday of Easter concludes our weeks of celebrating Easter. Worship on June 5th begins the Season of Pentecost.

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word, Holy Communion, and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The 7th Sunday of Easter gives us an opportunity to reflect on the Ascension of our Lord, 40 days after His Resurrection. Our Lessons from the Book of Acts, Chapter 1, and the end of the Gospel according to St Luke describe Jesus blessing us today as well as His original Disciples. Notice how St Luke’s words apply to us too:

While Jesus blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem [Estes Mt Calvary!] with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God (Luke 24:51-52).

The words in our First Lesson also apply to us:

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

The Epistle Lesson this Sunday brings home to us “the immeasurable greatness of God’s power toward us who believe.” St Paul wants us to know “what is the hope to which God has called us” and “what are the riches of God’s glorious inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18-19). God urges us to witness to all these immeasurable riches in Jesus our Risen Lord.

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder directly at this link.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. During fellowship, beginning around 10:30 am, the regular Sunday Zoom link will reopen so people can participate remotely in our Bible Study. Our study of occurrences of the name “Satan” has now taken us to references in the Book of Revelation. The Sunday Bible Study Guide is posted with the Service Folder and can be accessed at this link. During June we will not have Thursday morning Bible Study.

God has brought us Pr Robert Stevens to be our fulltime Pastor/Overseer at Mt Calvary. His installation as Pastor of Mt Calvary will take place in a festival service on Sunday, 5 June, at 3 pm. Our District President, Pr Roger Schlechte, will preach and will install Pr Stevens. Plan to join us!

May God make it possible for you to join us in person or on Zoom at 9am this Sunday for hearing God's Word and offering prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to God.

If you cannot be among God’s people in person this Sunday, you can join us by Zoom.

May 22, 2022 The 6th Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 6th Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and continues our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Our triumphant refrain continues to be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word, and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The 6th Sunday of Easter brings our attention to both new and old Jerusalem in the Epistle from Revelation 21 and the Gospel from John 5.

In Revelation 21 John recounts the vision granted to him of “the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal” (vv. 10-11).

In John 5 we see Jesus in the old city of Jerusalem healing an invalid by the Pool of Bethesda near the Temple. John 5:2 reads “Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades.”

On recent Sundays of Easter God’s Word has pointed us to His new creation—both earth and heaven. This Sunday we are reminded that our vocations remain yet in the old creation where, by God’s grace, we are privileged yet to do much good.

Our study of occurrences of the name “Satan” has now taken us to the Seven Letters to the Seven Churches in Asia, Revelation 2-3. The Sunday Bible Study Guide is posted with the Service Folder and can be accessed at this link. During May we will not have Thursday morning Bible Study.

May 15, 2022 The 5th Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 5th Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and continues our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Our triumphant refrain continues to be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word, Holy Communion, and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The 5th Sunday of Easter presents us with a rich range of Words from Holy Scripture. In the First Lesson from Acts 10-11 Peter and the earliest Christians are struggling with the question whether God wants everyone to become a practicing Jew before becoming a Christian. They are learning that even being part of God’s chosen Old Testament people gives no ground for boasting. “God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him” (Acts 10:34-35).

The Epistle Lesson comes again from the Book of Revelation, now near the end in Chapter 21. God, who shows no partiality, is making a new Heaven and Earth where He is pleased to dwell with us humans. In this new world of His grace “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4)

This Sunday we will concentrate on the Holy Gospel from John 16 where the Disciples are perplexed when Jesus teaches them about “little whiles” of suffering. “Little whiles” can also be translated as “micro moments,” for the Greek word is τὸ μικρόν. We too can be perplexed in our micro moments of suffering, so we’ll examine closely Jesus’ words to His disciples.

As most of you now know, the Holy Spirit has brought us Pr Robert Stevens to be our fulltime Pastor/Overseer at Mt Calvary. His installation as Pastor of Mt Calvary will take place in a festival service on Sunday, 5 June, at 3 pm. Our District President, Pr Roger Schlechte, will preach and will install Pr Stevens. Plan to join us!

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder directly at this link.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. Today we will have our quarterly Voters Meeting around 10:30. We will resume Bible Study next week. During May we will not have Thursday morning Bible Study.

May God make it possible for you to join us in person or on Zoom at 9am this Sunday for hearing God's Word and offering prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to God.

If you cannot be among God’s people in person this Sunday, you can join us by Zoom.

May 8, 2022 The 4th Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 4th Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and continues our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Our triumphant refrain continues to be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

On the 4th Sunday of Easter the Church always celebrates our risen Lord Jesus as the Great Good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep. We pray the Shepherd Psalm, Psalm 23, and the Holy Gospel comes from John 10. Here are Jesus’ own words as our Good Shepherd:

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand (John 10:27).

The Epistle Lesson comes again from the Book of Revelation, now in Chapter 7. We continue to hear of the Lamb of God. “For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their Shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (Revelation 7:17).

Our First Lesson is from Acts 20 and reminds us that Christ works through ordained Pastors who undertake the shepherding work under His direction. Speaking to Pastors from the congregation in Ephesus, St Paul says,

28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the Church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

Worship this Sunday will focus on our Great Good Shepherd and also on those Pastor/Overseers whom the Holy Spirit has tasked “to care for the Church of God.”

As most of you now know, the Holy Spirit has brought us Pr Robert Stevens to be our fulltime Pastor/Overseer at Mt Calvary. Our Lessons for the 4th Sunday of Easter are thus timely to help us grasp how God gifts us with His Pastors.

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder and Bible Study Guide directly at this link.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. We will continue our Sunday morning Bible Study around 10:30 am. We always take time to discuss any questions raised by the Day’s Lessons, and then we turn to the current topic of study which is God’s Word concerning our enemy Satan. We’ll make our study time available on Zoom at 10:30 am through the same link used for Sunday Worship. During May we are not having Thursday morning Bible Study.

May God make it possible for you to join us in person or on Zoom at 9am this Sunday for hearing God's Word and offering prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to God.

If you cannot be among God’s people in person this Sunday, you can join us by Zoom.

May 1, 2022 The 3rd Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 3rd Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and continues our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.

On the 3rd Sunday of Easter our Epistle Lesson comes again from the Book of Revelation, now in Chapter 5. Some of the images are strange to our experience, but the identification of Jesus as the Lamb of God has deep roots in God’s Word going back centuries before Christ’s death and resurrection. Christ, the Lamb, by His blood, “ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,” and has “made them a kingdom and priests to our God, . . . .” (Revelation 5:9-10).

Worship this Sunday will focus on these words from Revelation.

The other Lessons for the Day each deserve full attention. The First Lesson from Acts 9 tells of St Paul’s conversion to Faith in Christ. The Holy Gospel records another of Jesus’ appearances to his disciples along with his restoration of Peter to full apostolic work as a Pastor/Shepherd, feeding Christ’s sheep.

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder and Bible Study Guide directly at this link.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. Today we continue our Sunday morning Bible Study around 10:30 am. April 24, 2022 The 2nd Sunday of Easter

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. The 2nd Sunday of Easter occurs this weekend and marks a continuation of hearing the Biblical witness to the Resurrection of Jesus. Our triumphant refrain continues to be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

On the 2nd Sunday of Easter most Christian Churches turn to the Gospel of John and hear about the disciple Thomas’ doubts concerning the Resurrection (John 20:19-31). The story of Thomas, however, is set in a context of locked-up disciples meeting in fear, even though they have seen the risen Lord Jesus. We’re invited to ponder all the fearful lockings and courageous unlockings in our lives of faith.

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder and Bible Study Guide directly at this link.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. Today we resume our Sunday morning Bible Study around 10:30 am. We’ll make our study time available on Zoom at 10:30 am through the same link used for Sunday Worship. During April we are not having Thursday morning Bible Study.

May God make it possible for you to join us in person or on Zoom at 9am this Sunday for hearing God's Word and offering prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to God.

April 17, 2022 The Festival of the Resurrection

For Christians, every First Day of the Week—Sunday is a Festival of the Resurrection. Easter Sunday this weekend marks the culmination of God’s Word about Jesus that we began to hear already last November. Our triumphant refrain will be Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word, Holy Communion, and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

This Easter Sunday our Epistle Lesson states the facts plainly: “If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:19-10). This means that our final enemy, Death, has been decisively defeated (v. 26).

God’s messengers in the Holy Gospel for Easter advise the women at the empty tomb not “to seek the Living among the dead” (Luke 24:5). And we, at Easter Worship, are advised not to look for Life in the midst of this world’s deadly sinning.

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder directly at this link.

Fellowship will follow the Easter Service. The Hospitality Committee has arranged a Continental Breakfast to enhance our time together.

This Sunday we’ll continue to set aside our ongoing study of what God's Word says about Satan. Instead, we’ll use our time together to discuss ways in which we can help unchurched family, friends, and neighbors turn to the Good News that Death has been decisively defeated. We will not set up any Bible Study Zoom during this Easter Fellowship time.

Many of us enjoyed visiting with Pr Robert Stevens and his wife Laurie when they visited. Mt Calvary Congregation officially Called Pr Stevens to be our next full time Pastor. We pray for him and his wife, for his current Congregation, and for our Congregation that God’s Will be done. Because of Pr Stevens’ commitment to focusing his current Congregation on Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Day, we have not expected to hear any decision from him until after Easter Sunday.

May God make it possible for you to join us in person or on Zoom at 9am this Easter Sunday for hearing God's Word and offering prayer, praise, and thanksgiving to God.

If you cannot be among God's people in person this Sunday, you can join us by Zoom.

To join Zoom by computer, go to our home page On the home page, to the right of the photo slideshow, click on “Sunday Worship” and you will be taken directly to the Zoom link.

To join Zoom by phone, call (720) 707-2699. When prompted, enter this number: 581 701 506 ## (including the two pound signs at the end).

You can access this Sunday’s Service Folder directly at this link. The Zoom recording of the Service, if successful, will be available to any who ask by email to Pastor.MtCalvaryep@gmail.com and may be posted on the website, depending on availability of space.

We owe thanks to our Secretary Jeanne, our Organist Cheryl, our Altar Guild Chair Laurine, our “Joyful Noise” Women’s Choir organized by Char, our Hospitality Committee organized by Dorothy, Zoom operators led by the Fjares, Readers led by the Conleys, “Passover” Father and Mother, Pr Henry and Marian, Greeters and Ushers, and so many others for the rich experiences of Worship and Fellowship during Lent, Holy Week, and today’s Easter celebration.
