This Sunday we enter into a new season of the Church’s Year with the Day of Pentecost. In the first half of the Church’s Year we have the major celebrations of Christmas and Easter along with the seasons of Advent, Epiphany, Lent and Holy Week. We now enter the season of Pentecost that occupies the second half of the Church’s Year. Pentecost season helps us settle into regular rhythms of the Christian Life apart from the major festivals.

God strengthens us Sunday by Sunday with His Word and the Means of Grace, including the Preaching of His Word, Holy Communion, and the Fellowship of Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The Day of Pentecost celebrates God’s Gift of the Holy Spirit who brings about the birth and continuing life of the Christian Church, including our Mt Calvary Congregation.

The First Lesson from Genesis 11 shows us chaos in language and communication brought about by human sin“the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed humans over the face of all the earth” (11:9).

The Second Lesson from Acts 2 reveals the Holy Spirit creating the Church to be the agent of God’s forgiveness in Christ and the restorer of productive language and communication among us. The Apostles witnessed to the Good News of Jesus Christ to people of all the different languages in Jerusalem. St Peter sums it up this way: “And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (2:21).

The Holy Gospel from John 14 reminds us of Jesus’ promise to us all: “the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (14:26).

This week we welcome our new Pastor, Pr Robert Stevens, to give his first sermon among usThe Holy Spirit will bless him and us through God’s Word to learn again what Jesus said and did so that we all continue in the way of Christ’s Salvation.

Following Worship, we are all invited to regular fellowship with refreshments in the Christian Family Center. Today we will have informal conversations with our new Pastor. We'll not use Zoom for these conversations. During June we will not have Thursday morning Bible Study.

God has brought us Pr Robert Stevens to be our fulltime Pastor/Overseer at Mt Calvary. His installation as Pastor of Mt Calvary will take place in a festival service Today, 5 June, at 3 pm. Our District President, Pr Roger Schlechte, will preach and will install Pr Stevens. Plan to join us! The Installation will also be streamed live through Zoom on the same link we use for Sunday morning Worship.
